Track Record: Caba earned the biggest bonus in the Phillies’ 2023 international signing class and impressed in his pro debut, which was limited to just 38 games because of a left elbow injury that required season-ending surgery. He moved to the Rookie-level Florida Complex League in 2024 and showed no signs of rust. His year was impressive enough to nab the No. 1 spot on the FCL top 20 prospects list and earn a 26-game run at Low-A Clearwater from July 24 until the end of the season.
Scouting Report: Caba is the best infield defender in the Phillies’ system and among the very best in the entire sport. Conservative graders call Caba’s glovework double-plus, while many others are comfortable calling it a true 80-grade tool that will one day make him the centerpiece of Philadelphia’s infield. His hands and feet are exemplary. He has range to both sides and the quick-twitch athleticism to react in plenty of time to snare hard line drives and grounders hit his way. At the plate, Caba was incredibly selective and rarely strayed from the strike zone during his time in FCL, where his 51 walks led the league and far outpaced his 34 strikeouts. He has a simple swing from both sides of the plate geared to shoot line drives to the gaps and let his plus speed take over. His power is likely to be fringy at the highest level, but bat-to-ball skills and gold-standard defense will carry the bulk of his value.
The Future: Caba will head back to Low-A Clearwater in 2025, where he’ll test his mettle against better pitching and a tighter strike zone governed by the Florida State League’s automated ball-strike system. If he reaches his ceiling, he could be an all-star who hits at the top of a lineup and fills a trophy case with Gold Gloves.

Track Record: Were he born five days later, Tait would have been a prospect for the international class that opens on Jan. 15, 2024. Instead, he was one of the youngest players in his class and a sleeper prospect whom the Phillies scooped up and signed for $90,000 in 2023. Tait played the majority of his season at 16 years old--he didn’t turn 17 until the first game of the Dominican Summer League’s championship series--and spent the summer reinforcing the knack for barreling balls he showed as an amateur. He was selected for the DSL’s all-star game and put together a standout postseason performance that included five doubles in six games.
Scouting Report: Tait projects to be a bat-first backstop, and his offensive game showed up in spades in his pro debut. The foundation of his tool set starts with a strong body, a clean swing and excellent raw power from the left side, and he used those traits to hit balls harder than his peers. Tait’s average and 90th percentile exit velocities were 88.8 and 92.9 mph, both of which were considerably better than most players his age or in the DSL. The power in his game showed up early, too, with home runs to dead center and the opposite way during spring training in the Dominican Republic. His swing also features smooth enough rhythm to help him get the barrel to the ball on time more often than not. Tait’s game will likely always be focused on his offense, but the Phillies believe his defense could get to average as he develops and learns the finer points of the position. His arm has the potential to get to above-average and he will likely settle in as a below-average runner.
The Future: After a boffo season in the DSL, Tait will move stateside in 2024 to the Florida Complex League. He’s got the upside be a bat-first everyday catcher in the big leagues.
