Track Record: Celesten was a well-regarded prospect in the Dominican Republic years before his signing period opened in 2023. He officially signed for $4.7 million, the largest international bonus ever given out by the Mariners. Celesten missed the entire 2023 season with a hamstring injury and then raised a few concerns by looking lost in extended spring training in 2024. He quelled those fears by going to the Arizona Complex League and dominating to the tune of .352/.341/.568, though his season was cut short by a wrist injury.
Scouting Report: Celesten is a bit of a tinkerer at the plate, toggling the degree of his crouch and the height and duration of his leg kick. The switch-hitter has a fairly similar setup from each side of the plate, though there’s a bit more present strength in his lefthanded swing. Celesten should end up with at least an average hit tool at peak, because he competes on pitches outside of his wheelhouse and shows a willingness to use the opposite field. He already has hit a ball at 110 mph as an 18-year-old, and he projects for plus power. Celesten also has an excellent eye at the plate for his age. He sees the ball deep and spits on close pitches. He’s a plus runner with explosive strides and does a good job of cutting corners on the bases. He has all the tools to stay at shortstop, boasting solid lateral mobility, soft hands and the arm to make plays in the hole or on the run.
The Future: The sky is the limit for Celesten. He’s still far away, with just 32 career games under his belt, but it would be foolish to put any sort of ceiling on him. He will look to make his full-season debut in 2025 and show off the tools and skills of a middle-of-the-order bat who runs and plays above-average defense at shortstop.

BA Grade: 55/Extreme
Track Record: Celesten emerged early as a top prospect in the Dominican Republic and trained in the same program as Athletics shortstop prospect Robert Puason. Celesten attracted clubs as a switch-hitter with a mechanically-sound swing from both sides of the plate and vaulted into the upper echelon of the 2023 international class. The Mariners signed him for $4.7 million, the second-largest bonus in the class, the day the signing period opened. Celesten impressed in the spring, but he suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain during an intrasquad game in June and missed the Dominican Summer League season. He returned in the fall for instructional league in Arizona and stood out as one of the Mariners’ top players in camp.
Scouting Report: Celesten has some of the best tools and biggest upside in the Mariners system. He’s a lean but strong 6-foot-2, 175 pounds and has physical projection still remaining. He has a direct, powerful righthanded swing that produces plus power and could grow into more thump as he gets stronger. His lefthanded swing is longer but flashes plus power when it connects. Celesten has an aggressive approach and will need to be more selective against higher-level pitching, but he has a track record of hitting in games. He projects to be an average hitter who accesses power in games. Celesten is a plus runner with loose, long strides and smooth actions at shortstop. He has a plus, accurate arm that will allow him to remain on the left side of the infield. Celesten may slow down as he fills out, but he projects to remain at shortstop with his athleticism and actions.
The Future: Celesten has the tools to be a power-hitting, everyday shortstop, but he has yet to play a professional game and has a long road ahead. He’ll make his pro debut in the Arizona Complex League.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/Extreme
Track Record: Celesten trained in the same program as Robert Puason and became well known among international scouts from an early age with his mechanically advanced swing from both sides of the plate.
Scouting Report: He has an aggressive approach and might need to become a more selective hitter, but he has performed at a high level against live pitching and put a strong charge into the ball for his age. Now, though, Celesten's tools have jumped significantly as well as he has grown taller and gotten stronger. Celesten now flashes plus raw power and still shows more physical projection in his lean, athletic frame. His speed and arm strength have both improved to become plus tools as well. His hands and feet work well at shortstop, where he has the athleticism and skills to stick. That combination of hitting ability, tools and athleticism at a premium position makes Celesten the top shortstop in this class for many scouts.
The Future: Celesten will make his pro debut in the DSL.
