View Draft Report
School: NC State
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age at Draft: 21.2
Serrano was a notable prep prospect thanks to his big frame, solid raw power and bat speed that made him seem like a solid prospect even at one of the offensive-first defensive positions. Now a draft-eligible sophomore at NC State, Serrano has moved from first base to center field after a solid 2023 freshman season where he homered seven times and added 12 doubles. While Serrano doesn’t look like a center fielder in the long run, showing the ability to move around the outfield and perhaps profile at a corner could help his profile as long as he keeps hitting and showing more power. He still has some physical projection remaining with a lanky 6-foot-5, 201-pound frame.

BA Grade/Risk: 50/High
Track Record: Serrano is the son of Giants 1998 second-round pick Sammy Serrano, who played professionally for four seasons, reaching Low-A. Eli was the Mets’ fourth-round pick last year out of North Carolina State. He began his first full pro season in style, serving as leadoff batter for a high-octane High-A Brooklyn lineup.
Scouting Report: Serrano is 6-foot-5 and long-levered, giving him leverage in his lefthanded swing that is apparent in his promising batted-ball data. He also shows strong control of the strike zone. He makes a lot of zone contact and stays within his zone against High-A pitchers, traits that will serve him well as he moves up. Serrano’s bat speed and hard-hit rate should produce at least average power. Getting in position to handle inside pitches will be key, given his long levers. Serrano sees a lot of time in center field and moves around well, with an arm that plays in right field.
The Future: Serrano looks like a good all-around player who might be able to contribute in multiple facets. The Mets like his energy level and leadership qualities.

School: Pro5 Baseball Academy, Apex, N.C. Committed/Drafted: North Carolina State
Age At Draft: 19.2
An extra-large corner infielder, Serrano is listed at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds and was named a third team preseason All-American by MLB scouting directors. He has solid raw power to the pull side presently with good bat speed from the left side, but a swing that can get lengthy and a bit steep at times. He looks like a classic corner profile who should find a home in left field, right field or first base, and he should settle into a fringe-average runner as he fills out his frame. He moves well now but could slow down when he adds more muscle and mass to a still-projectable frame. Serrano is old for the class and will be a draft-eligible sophomore at North Carolina State if he makes it to campus.
