Seward is a quick-twitch, explosive athlete with an exciting, well-rounded blend of skills and tools both offensively and defensively. At the plate, he’s a true switch-hitter with a smooth swing that’s simple, compact and fluid from both sides of the plate. It’s an adjustable stroke with good bat-to-ball skills, and while he’s not that physical, he whips the barrel through the zone with excellent bat speed to generate sneaky pop for his size, driving the ball out of the park in games with the potential to grow into a 20-plus home run threat. Seward is a plus-plus runner who accelerates quickly and projects as a true shortstop. He can make the rangy, acrobatic plays at shortstop but also has a good internal clock to play under control with smooth actions. He’s light on his feet, has soft hands and can finish plays with an above-average arm. He checks a lot of boxes teams look for in a first-round pick out of high school and has the upside to be an early first-rounder in the 2027 draft.
