Track Record: Peña emerged as one of the most promising prospects available in the 2025 international signing class. The Dominican shortstop combined hitting ability and power like few of his peers. The Mets signed Peña for $5 million on Jan. 15, using nearly all of their pool allotment of $6,261,600 and also committing the largest bonus in franchise history for an international amateur.
Scouting Report: Peña shows a mature hitting approach that helps him work advantageous counts and get to his raw power. He has a smooth, explosive lefthanded swing that stays compact and on-plane through the hitting zone for a long time. Peña is strong for his age, with a strong, compact build and high-end bat speed. If everything clicks, he could be a plus hitter with 25-30 home run power. Peña should start his pro career at shortstop but seems more likely to end up at third or possibly second base. His actions and plus arm profile at the hot corner. Peña worked hard to improve his athleticism and speed but will likely be an average runner and not a major basestealing threat.
The Future: Peña will begin his pro career this season, most likely when the Dominican Summer League opens in June. He could develop into a lefthanded-hitting regular at second or third base, but it’s going to take time.
