Track Record: Escobar signed with the Phillies out of Venezuela in 2022 and began his career in the Dominican Summer League. His three home runs were good enough to lead his team that year, but he returned to the DSL for his sophomore campaign. The infielder moved stateside in 2024 and put forth a breakout campaign in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League. His season was limited to just 24 games because of shin splints in both legs.
Scouting Report: Nothing on Escobar’s scouting card jumps off the page, but he does just enough of everything to make himself interesting. His strongest trait is his ability to put the bat on the ball, and his miss, zone-miss and chase rates in the FCL were all below 20%. As has been the case throughout his career, Escobar showed a superb sense of the strike zone; for the second straight season he finished with more walks (21) than strikeouts (10). He also shows decent power for his age and size, and tied his career-high water mark with three home runs. He’s a below-average runner who is quick but not fast and shows excellent instincts on the bases. He has soft hands and fluid actions at second base, and his textbook footwork allows him to turn double plays well. He has a strong, accurate arm and got seven games at third base during his run in the FCL.
The Future: With just 105 games in three seasons, a big part of Escobar’s goals in 2025 will be getting more reps under his belt. Those will likely come at Low-A Clearwater. If he can stay healthy, he has a ceiling as a second-division regular second baseman.
