Track Record: Walcott signed with the Rangers out of the Bahamas just a couple months shy of his 17th birthday in 2023 and earned a bonus of $3 million. He rose through the ranks quicker than most in his first pro year, beginning in the Dominican Summer League and finishing at High-A Hickory. He opened the 2024 season as the youngest player in the South Atlantic League and the second-youngest player at High-A. He finished the year at Double-A.
Scouting Report: Walcott’s upside is unmatched in the Rangers’ system and equaled by few in the sport. He’s lithe, athletic, tooled to the hilt and strong-willed enough to hold his own against near-universally older competition. The first two months of the 2024 season were rough for Walcott, but he kept making adjustments and eventually reaped the benefits. Once he did, evaluators reported a player with a chance at average or better grades on all five tools. His hit tool is the biggest question, and he’ll need to continually stay sharp against spin to get the most out of his offensive gifts. Walcott shows off prodigious raw juice in batting practice and gets to nearly all of it once the lights turn on. His 90th percentile exit velocity of 106.4 mph ranked third-best in the system. There are questions about where Walcott will settle defensively, but shortstop is not out of the question thanks to a rangy frame, high-end athleticism and an arm strong enough to erase even the swiftest baserunners. He’s a plus runner now but might slow down a tick as he ages and tacks on even more muscle.
The Future: Walcott reached the upper levels for the first time in 2024 and likely will return to Double-A Frisco in 2025. If he shows the same ability to adjust as he has in his past two seasons, he has a chance to reach the big leagues late in the season. He has a shot to become a franchise cornerstone.

Track Record: Walcott signed two months before he turned 17, earned a bonus north of $3 million and immediately showed a wealth of high-end tools. Walcott speaks more English than Spanish, which was part of the reason the Rangers promoted him out of the Dominican Summer League after just six games. It’s also why he skipped Low-A after playing 35 games in the Arizona Complex League. At High-A Hickory, Walcott could be around English speakers like Cam Cauley instead of the group of mostly Spanish-speaking prospects clustered at Low-A Down East.
Scouting Report: After moving stateside to the ACL, Walcott immediately put on a show. The 17-year-old swatted a home run in his first game and finished with seven, tied for fifth in the Rookie-level league. Walcott is twitchy with huge bat speed that helps him generate nearly elite raw power that translates into games. To get to that ceiling, he’ll need to greatly reduce his whiffs. He struggled overall to handle offspeed pitches, right-on-right sliders in particular. The end result was a strikeout rate of 29.7% across all three of his stops and a rate of 32.4% in the ACL. Walcott also showed a tendency to let the his frustration compound and occasionally threw helmets and bats after strikeouts, leading to removal from games. He has a chance to remain at shortstop, but if he gets too big he might have to move to third base or the outfield. Walcott has the plus arm to handle third base, and his bat would certainly profile at the position. His athleticism and above-average speed would play well in an outfield corner.
The Future: Whether Walcott starts at Low-A or High-A, he has a chance to blossom into a perennial all-star. Better plate discipline is the first step toward reaching that ceiling.

BA Grade/Risk: 50/Extreme
Track Record: Walcott continues what has been a more fruitful pipeline from the Bahamas to pro ball in recent years, adding to a list that also includes Marlins prospects Ian Lewis and Janero Miller, as well as Marlins mainstay Jazz Chisholm. Walcott is a big, athletic player who is at shortstop for now but his athleticism could fit in the outfield as well depending on how his body develops.
Scouting Report: Walcott is already quite tall at 6-foot-4 and has plenty of room to add power as he grows into his body. He's got bat speed and present strength, too, and has already produced exit velocities up to 105 mph. He might not be a true average defender at shortstop, but his arm strength--which is at least plus--will serve him well on the left side of the diamond. The arm and power would fit at third base or a corner outfield spot if he needs to move as he gets bigger and stronger.
The Future: Walcott will debut in the Dominican Summer League, but the Rangers showed last year with Anthony Gutierrez that they're unafraid to be aggressive with even their youngest players if their performance warrants an accelerated timetable.
