In a 2025 class deep with high school shortstops, de Brun is the top prep outfielder. He’s undersized at 5-foot-9, 190 pounds, but has a strong tool set and a similar overall profile to recent speedy, first-round outfielders such as Slade Caldwell, Braylon Payne and Dillon Head. While de Brun isn’t physically imposing, he has done a nice job adding strength to his frame over the last two years. He was a tremendous performer throughout the 2024 circuit and one of the better hitters with USA Baseball’s 18U National Team. De Brun pairs a good understanding of the strike zone with above-average contact ability thanks to a short-levered swing that is direct to the ball. There were times in 2024 when de Brun’s swing path could get a bit rigid, but scouts in 2025 were impressed with the progress he made in that area. While he won’t ever be a huge home run threat, there’s no reason why he couldn’t become an above-average pure hitter who gets to 10-15 home runs per season and surprises people with the impact of his best-struck balls. De Brun’s loudest tool is his speed. He’s consistently a 70-grade runner who gets out of the box quickly and should be a basestealing threat. He has great range and solid instincts in center field and, unlike many undersized speedsters, also has an above-average arm. De Brun is a Vanderbilt commit and young for the class. He fits in the back of the first round or shortly thereafter.

De Brun is small in stature but he’s young for the class with a good mix of tools and a high baseball IQ. He has added significant strength in 2024, and while he doesn’t have much physical projection and doesn’t look like he will be a big home run threat, he puts the ball in play at a high clip with consistent hard contact from his short, level swing from the left side. He’s a plus runner with good defensive instincts in center field, where he has an above-average arm.
