Luis Guevara, a 19-year-old infielder in the Orioles organization, has died. The team announced the news on Tuesday night.

“Luis was a beloved member of our organization and we are devastated following his tragic passing,” Orioles Executive Vice President and General Manager Mike Elias said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and teammates, and we ask for their continued privacy during this difficult time.”

Guevara was playing for the Florida Complex League Orioles at the time of his death. He signed with the club out of Venezuela in January 2023, then spent his first two years playing in the Dominican Summer League before coming to the U.S. in 2025. Guevara had played for Double-A Chesapeake, Low-A Delmarva and the FCL Orioles this season.

Guevara was involved in a jet ski accident this past weekend. The FCL Orioles’ Monday and Tuesday games this week had been postponed after the accident.
