Let’s round up select category leaders for the month of May in the major leagues and full-season minor leagues.

MVP machines Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are at it again. The duo is on a different plane of production this decade. Judge led all major league hitters in May with a .798 slugging percentage and 1.251 OPS, while Ohtani led with 15 home runs, 21 extra-base hits and 31 runs scored.

On the minor league side, Rockies prospect Ryan Ritter had the month of a lifetime. The Triple-A Albuquerque shortstop batted .381/.445/.918 with a minor league-leading 12 home runs, 89 total bases and a 1.363 OPS.

To qualify for rate categories, major league batters must have 3.1 plate appearances per team game. Minor leaguers require 2.7 PAs per team game.

Now, we move on to pitching categories.

Tigers ace and reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal led all major league pitchers with a 59 strikeouts, a 0.59 WHIP and .415 opponent OPS in May. He finished with 41 innings, one off the monthly lead set by Framber Valdez. Skubal went 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA in six starts.

To qualify for rate categories, major league pitchers must have one inning per team game. Minor leaguers require 0.8 innings per team game.
